Tersano vs eWater Sustainable Cleaning Systems [pros and cons]

Chemical cleaning products are of the past.

Forget about bleach and ammonia.

And if you’re thinking, “surely they can’t be.” Then think again.

Wouldn’t it be great to not have that chemical-like smell left behind after your cleaner visits your site?

Wouldn’t it also be great to use cleaning products out there that are sustainable, environmentally friendly, and free of toxins?

Um yes! That would be fantastic!

Well look no further. Tersano and eWater are the two green cleaning systems out there that are both highly effective and sustainable.

But how do these two systems compare with one another? Is one better than the other?

And straight up, we’ll respond to this with a very simple answer – no.

They’re both sustainable, clean properly, and are suitable for any workplace big or small. So essentially, it all comes down to what you’re after for your site.

We understand that having two systems to choose from can make for a hard decision. So, we’ve decided to give you an honest comparison of the two cleaning technologies. By the end of this article, you’ll understand what your options are, and which green cleaning system is best for you.

What is Tersano SAO?

One of Tersano’s main goals is to put bleach out of business.

Why?

Simple. It’s about time that safe and sustainable cleaning technologies are put at the forefront of the way we clean.

Before we discuss how Tersano works, I will mention that we are going to get a bit nerdy in this section so bear with us.

The SAO system uses advanced technology to convert oxygen (O2) into ozone (O3) and is infused into cold tap water (H2O). When the ozone molecules interact with the cell wall of germs, bacteria, and viruses, tiny holes form which break down the matter. This is known as oxidation and is what kills the nasty germs.

However, it’s not that easy. Whilst the ozone is effective, it’s not what we would call a “happy” liquid. The art of getting H2O and O3 to join as one is not an easy act. If you were to look at these molecules joined under a microscope, you would see that they shake violently with the sole purpose of trying to disconnect.

So how is this issue solved?

The answer – an amazing technology known as stabilisation, hence the term Stabilised Aqueous Ozone. The stabiliser effectively stabilises the solution so that it can be used in the cleaning of your site.

Now that we’ve explained what Tersano is and how it works, we’re going to take a look at the pros and cons that come with this system.

Pros of Tersano

There certainly are many positives to the Tersano SAO system and here they are.

• Tersano cleans, sanitises, and deodorises all types of surfaces in one step.
• This cleaning system replaces 80-90% of chemical solutions.
• Kills 99.99% of germs including E.coli, salmonella, MRSA, and more.
• Tersano has a lower capital cost compared to eWater (which costs approximately $3,000).
• SAO has eliminated over 672,453,000 litres of chemicals from going down the drains or into landfills each year
• When the systems stabilisers (filled with ion exchange resins) need replacing, they can be returned to the supplier. When returned, these cartridges are opened, and the resins are sent out to get regenerated. From there, the plastic/housing are either ground up to reuse in the injection moulding process or reused for another time out in the field (can be reused up to 7 times). In other words, the stabilisers don’t go into landfill.

Cons of Tersano

• Because Tersano doesn’t look or smell like your standard cleaning chemical and doesn’t have surfactant (component to assist the chemical to do its job and make bubbles) many people wonder if it’s really doing its job i.e. cleaning properly.
• The maintenance cost can be quite high as there is an ongoing cost as far as replacing stabilising units go – can cost around $400 each. They need to be exchanged every 3000 litres for SAO-24 and 6000 litres for SAO-4.

What is eWater?

Let me start by saying this system only needs 3 key ingredients to work – water, salt, and electricity.

And no, it’s not some sort of magic.

The science behind eWater is pure and simple.

The eWater technology works by passing regular tap water into two chambers that have oppositely charged solutions – positive and negative. From here, a dilute salt solution is introduced that segregates the ions formed to produce two liquids. And what’s great about these two liquids is that they’re both naturally biodegradable and can revert back to salt and water after extended contact with organic material.

• Sodium hydroxide – positive charge
• Hypochlorous acid (HCIO) – negative charge

Now, these 2 solutions are then broken down into a ready-to-use supply of 4 different types of cleaning solutions.

• Disinfectant – it is best used on touchpoint surfaces if there’s been a flu or Covid-19 outbreak
• Neutral – pH neutral sanitising cleaner which is best used for cleaning floors and bathrooms
• Sanitiser – an antibacterial sanitiser that is best used on surfaces and contact applications
• Cleaner – a multi-purpose agent that cuts through dirt, grime, and grease

In other words, this cleaning system can clean anything and everything!

Now that you know what eWater is, let’s take a look at the pros and cons associated with this cleaning system.

Pros of eWater

Many positives come along with having an eWater system on your site.

• eWater disinfectant is certified to kill the coronaviruses including SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19).
• eWater is up to 80 times more effective at killing germs, bacteria, and pathogens than your standard cleaning solutions e.g. bleach and ammonia.
• The Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration has certified the concentration of the eWater disinfectant at 50 parts per million.
• You get 4 versatile solutions that clean all surfaces. This means your cleaner doesn’t need to use any chemicals – you have every cleaning solution you need at your doorstep.
• You’re able to clean and disinfect in one hit by mixing the cleaning and disinfecting solutions together. It created a neutral solution that is 20 parts per million.
• eWater is biodegradable and can reduce your businesses carbon and chemical footprints.
• Because eWater has no stabilisers as such (unlike Tersano), its maintenance is a lot less as you only need to replace a box of salt when it runs out.

Cons of eWater

• eWater has a higher capital cost (costs approximately $10,000). However, it does have a lower running cost as you only need to purchase salt, not stabilisers.
• This system can be perceived to be more complicated in terms of usage because it produces two liquids.
• Similar to Tersano, eWater doesn’t look or smell like a chemical and people see this as a disadvantage because “how can it possibly be working then.”

Which green cleaning system is the right fit for you?
